No experience needed. No auditions. Just Sunday afternoons, great music, and the joy of folk dance. Your new favorite tradition starts here.
Kartoflanie, "The Potato People" in Polish, is Boise's Polish folk dance ensemble. Polish folk dance is colorful, athletic, and an absolute blast to learn — and it is the heart of everything we do. As our ensemble grows, we'll also explore select dances from neighboring cultures that have shared centuries of history with Poland, including Ukrainian, Slovak, Hungarian, and beyond.
Everyone is welcome here, regardless of heritage. Whatever your background, come dance with us. We're building something from the ground up: a community rooted in culture, movement, and a whole lot of fun. This is your chance to be part of something from the very beginning.
The Kartoflanie family — come be in the next one.
Polish folk dance is the heart of Kartoflanie. As our ensemble matures, we'll also draw from the rich traditions of neighboring cultures that have shared centuries of history with Poland.
A lively suite from the mountainous Żywiec region of southern Poland, blending the refined character of town life with the spirited energy of the surrounding highlands.
A bold, fiery dance from the Carpathian mountain people whose culture spans the borderlands of Central and Eastern Europe. Athletic, dramatic, and instantly captivating.
One of Poland's most iconic dances — proud, energetic, and full of character. Its driving triple meter and spirited footwork have made it a symbol of Polish identity for centuries.
An elegant nod to Poland between the wars, capturing the cosmopolitan café culture and stylish urban flair of a Warsaw that danced on the edge of a remarkable era.
A colorful and joyful suite from the Opoczno region, celebrated for its vibrant folk costumes and lively choreography rooted deep in the Polish countryside.
Folk dance builds strength, coordination, and cardio fitness, all while you're having too much fun to notice. It's the workout that doesn't feel like one.
Walking in alone is normal here. Within weeks, your fellow dancers become friends, family, and your Sunday crew. This is where connections happen.
Every dance tells a story: harvests, courtship, celebration. Polish folk dance carries centuries of living tradition, and as our repertoire grows, we'll also bring in select dances from neighboring cultures that have shared that same rich history.
We don't just practice, we perform! Cultural festivals, community events, and showcases give you a chance to share your passion with audiences.
Learning choreography builds new neural pathways. Studies show dance reduces cognitive decline and boosts memory, all while keeping your spirits high.
Polish folk music is electrifying: driving rhythms, soaring melodies, and energy that makes it impossible to sit still. You'll hear it in your dreams.
Adults at 1:00 PM, and our new Pyrki kids' group at 12:00 PM. Consistent weekly schedule so you can plan around it.
We rehearse at our partner Ballet Folklorico Mexico Lindo's studio, located at 4214 W Emerald St, Boise, ID 83706. It's a spacious, welcoming space with great energy and a fantastic sprung floor perfect for dancing.
Comfortable clothes you can move in, and clean indoor shoes with smooth soles. That's it!
Your first rehearsal is on us. No commitment, no pressure. Just come see what it's all about.
Pyrki is Kartoflanie's brand-new group for kids — the same Polish folk dance, the same music, the same joy, scaled to little legs. We start with games, rhythm, and the basic steps, and build toward real dances and real performances.
Why Pyrki? It comes from pyry — the western Polish, Poznań-region word for ziemniaki, potatoes. So if the grown-ups are the Kartoflanie, the kids are our little Pyrki.
Right before the adult rehearsal — drop the kids off, then stay and dance yourself.

Comfy clothes, clean indoor shoes with smooth soles, and a water bottle. That's it.
Come try it out — no experience, no Polish, and no commitment required.
Absolutely not. We teach everything from scratch. Many of our dancers started with zero experience and discovered a passion they never knew they had.
Our main ensemble welcomes adults and teens (16+), and our new Pyrki group meets Sundays at 12:00 PM for the kids. Folk dance is for every body type and fitness level. If you can walk, you can dance with us.
Not at all! Our dancers come from all backgrounds. Whatever your heritage, you are welcome here. What unites us is a love for dance, culture, and community.
Please do! Dancing is even more fun with a buddy. But solo arrivals are equally welcome, you'll make friends fast, we promise.
Not yet! We'll provide authentic Polish folk costumes for performances when the time comes. For rehearsals, just wear comfy clothes.
We'd love to see you weekly, but life happens. Come when you can. The more you come, the more you'll learn and the more fun you'll have.
With over a decade of experience teaching and performing Polish folk dance across the United States, Maciej brings infectious energy and deep cultural knowledge to every rehearsal. As President of the Polish Folk Dance Association of the Americas and former Artistic Director of the Mazury Polish Folk Dance Ensemble in Atlanta, he's dedicated his career to making folk dance accessible, joyful, and unforgettable. Now he's bringing that passion to Boise.
Kartoflanie is a young ensemble building everything from scratch. Every dollar goes straight into the floor under our feet and the costumes on our backs.

No sign-up forms. No auditions. Just show up this Sunday at 1:00 PM and let the music do the rest.
